Plinth 8cm

Shades of black: Kitchen interior trend 2018

Black in furnishing

Use of dark colours in interior design has become extremely successful after being presented during the Milan Design Week 2018. For years Nordic style has been stealing consumer’s hearts and now in combination with a range of dark colours; from intense browns to deep blues, from greys in to the shades of total black it continues to meet designers taste.

Black: complete, fundamental, sophisticated  and elegant. In character with those who love to dare. It is not easy to use, especially in furniture , but if introduced to your interior in correct way it can transform the atmosphere of your room enhancing it with sophistication that darker shades naturally possess.

It is the common perception, that black is associated with darkness: therefore because of its intensity it is often used in accessories or small furniture, often combined with lighter colours that make it appears weaker. It is perhaps the fact that we are afraid it will make our space look smaller and dim.

In fact, when using black wisely it can give your interior a touch of character and sharpness. More popular in industrial and vintage style interior, dark colour can give your space strong identity symbolising power, respect and authority. Perfect in modern interior with minimal furniture, also combined with white colour creates a timeless look.

Aliant-light

Black according to Feng Shui

The Feng Shui is a practice of Chinese and Tibetan origin, very ancient tradition. According to Feng Shui, the harmony of man depends on the balance. It states that the layout of the room and furnishings as well as the colours that dress them, must response to precise rules in order to create a calm environment that maximizes the well-being of those who live there.

Black adds depth to an environment and fills the space with energy: it is therefore suitable for furnishing rooms where the activity is dynamic, such as kitchen which is the centre of the house. It’s not advised to be used in  areas dedicated to relaxation and rest.

What to consider if you want a dark kitchen

One of the most important factors  to keep in mind when planning to use black in the kitchen is BALANCE. It is necessary to evaluate the size and shape of your room as well as lighting as black or in facts any very dark tint can dominate the entire environment.

If the kitchen area is a small space, using dark kitchen furniture will make it cramped, it is therefore advised to use light colour, only adding few black details. If however the kitchen is generous, choosing dark colour will make a great impact on your space and positively impress your guests. Black imply refined and luxurious style, especially when accompanied by lights that define its contours and enhance its depth. The black kitchen with appropriately positioned lights will appear scenographic.

As well as the aesthetic advantages, black kitchen also has other benefits: it needs little maintance, due to dark colours being very resistant and in opaque finish also masks the fingerprints, therefore the kitchen becomes much more functional and easy to clean.

The Aliant kitchen presented by STOSA is a perfect example of a dark kitchen enhanced by light colours. The pantry with opaque black glass doors and the window with brushed black frame doors and semi-transparent grey glass perfectly match the central island in HPL Argilla finish.  What STOSA created is a strong, elegant and extremely functional kitchen.

Aliant

In order to make the dark kitchen less impactful we suggest the trick of using light or bright colours as shown in the Metropolis kitchen. Use of black with combination of Pet Grau and Cool Grey Pet balancing the colour, creating a dynamic composition.

Metropolis

Alternatives to dark kitchens

For those afraid to use black in the kitchen, the shades of grey are a great compromise, they are elegant and at the same time timeless.  STOSA Newport kitchen is a classic- contemporary look that blends two shades of grey; the lighter Girgio Piacenza lacquered finish of the hood wall units and the island, the darker colour Gray Partridge Ash use in base units and frame columns.

Newport

Wide range of STOSA kitchens makes it possible to find your perfect composition, designed for different lifestyles and to meet different tastes and needs. Everyone can find the kitchen that best reflects their character by innovation, functionality, ergonomics and a quality that lasts over time.

The new model of STOSA kitchen soon will be on our display in our Cambridge showroom. Come and see one of kitchen designers if you are planning on upgrading your kitchen. We can advise you on the colour and finish to create your perfect space in time for Christmas celebrations.  Visit our showroom at 132 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8HE

This extends from start to finish, whether we’re chatting about our interior design service over a coffee with prospective customers or putting the finishing touches to their home. We love what we do.

We’re also careful to work with suppliers who share this commitment to outstanding design and to whom the ethos of a family business remains important. That’s why we love Jesse and are proud to be one of the UK’s foremost suppliers of this historic, prestigious brand.

Jesse Bridge table

Jesse furniture stands the test of time

Founded in the 1920s as a humble but ambitious carpentry shop producing furniture for schools, by the ‘50s they’d established themselves as one of Italy’s foremost producers of home furniture. By the 1970s they were brightening up homes across Europe with a focus on care, elegance and modernity.

Today, we’re proud to work alongside Jesse; we share their ideas when it comes to the importance of quality and family. Modern Italian furniture from Jesse is built to stand up to the rigours of everyday family life, like this dining table. It combines a striking angular design, so rich in artistry, with a clear focus on using robust materials and time-honoured craftsmanship.

If you need more evidence of what Belvisi’s range of furniture from Jesse can bring to your dining room, look at the Moon extending dining table. Gorgeous furniture should enrich your life, however you choose to live it, and this table offers options to fit into any space or expand to easily accommodate extra guests. Bringing these exquisite creations into your home is just the start of the adventure.

Jesse shade drawer

Fine Italian furniture for all of your home

Of course, Jesse is all about expansion, and while their roots lie in crafting furniture for communal spaces, they’ve also turned their attention elsewhere in the home. In contemporary bedroom furniture like this hinged wardrobe you can see the same philosophy. It’s the same meticulous focus on classic design mixed with the best of modern materials and construction.

By the same token, we can look at designs like the Skin sideboard or the Shade night stand and see this unpretentious approach to crafting great furniture for those who live life. Running through all our favourite Jesse models is a love of bold straight lines and strong matching colours to give any room a sense of expanse and motion.

We love this marriage of elegance and function which runs through Jesse’s work. We’re a family company ourselves so we recognise when designers keep in mind the everyday reality of what their creations need to stand up to and still produce furniture which takes your breath away at a glance.

Children’s bedroom furniture: Options for life

When you’re decorating your children’s bedroom, you want to give them it all. To them, you’re a superhero so being able to give them their very own secret hideout is just part of the magic. Unfortunately, parents often face a reality check when it comes to working with the available space.

Many people we speak to struggle to combine the fun, colourful environment their little ones want with the practical limitations of what is usually a smaller than average room. Above all else, they want to know that the furniture they choose is safe and will stand the test of time.

Kid’s bedroom solutions with real Italian furniture

In our experience, it pays to take a step back and look at the big picture. What are you really trying to achieve with your kid’s bedroom furniture? What are the obstacles that stand in your way?

Battistella Nidi 11

Is it a matter of space? If so, think outside the box. In cases like that, the key lies in combining elements to maximise the floor space they need for playing and open up as much of the room as possible.

A room set up like this foldaway bedroom solution from Battistella puts their bed, desk, shelves and wardrobe all within arm’s reach of one another without compromising on comfort, style or durability. The imaginative folding bed is the star of this show, tying it all together as a dynamic centrepiece.

Maybe you’re contending with a room that’s an odd shape? In cases like that, it’s all about working with the room, not against it, to find new ways to include everything you need.

One solution might be this versatile composition. Even the tightest corners can be made to work wonders for you with raised storage, open shelves and a comfy bed tucked underneath.

For longer, narrower rooms, consider something like this combo with the Twiddy Plus drop-down bed. With a sturdy desk, bed and extensive storage aligned across one wall, floor space is maximised for playtime and adding the finishing touches to give them the space they’ll really love.

Long-lasting Italian children’s furniture for your home

What makes our selection of contemporary Italian bedroom furniture really stand out is the level of flexibility it affords your little ones. What’s great for your child now might not be just what they want or need in three years. Invest in an environment which they can mould around their changing tastes and it’ll pay dividends.

Battistella Nidi 6

Again, Belvisi and Battistella have you covered. With this bedroom furniture combo your children have all the fun and comfort that comes with the very best of modern Italian furniture, but with the ability to mix and match multiple bed configurations for sleepovers or just that little bit more room to spread out!

Alternatively, this composition is fully mobile on durable rails and castors, perfect for when they want to mix things up a bit. As they get older and the games get more sophisticated, they can roll out the beds to give themselves more sleeping space, or just as easily free up more room for larger projects.

The best of kid’s bedroom furniture from Belvisi

We understand that every children’s bedroom we help create is as unique as the child who loves it. That’s why we take the time to get to know each project we’re involved with in intimate detail to recommend the best ways to tackle each individual problem.

If you’re thinking about redecorating the kid’s room and need some advice, call us on 01223 327463 or visit our Showroom for a chat over real Italian espresso!
