Back To School

Fun and functional homework space

Making your child’s room a place that inspire their creativity and play is very important to their development and growth.

Kids want to learn in every possible way they can, here are some kid’s workspace ideas and main points to consider when designing a room that will help inspire them to commit to those homework’s, even the ones we have trouble helping them with.

1.Location

Think about where you going to set up a working space, consider how your kids focus best, if they get distracted easily, perhaps a quite spot could become the new study area.

workspace

2. Get creative

When designing your children’s bedroom, colourful and personalised elements can be easily missed out on in favour of functionality, Think about what your child’s passions are. Personalise their space making it sparks with creativity.

With Nidi Teens collection you can create endless number of arrangements to transform the space.

3.The ideal desk and chair

Children are most definitely faster and springier than we are, however ergonomics are extremely important to their growing bodies. Make sure you pick the right desk and chair to provide a comfortable space. To determine the perfect height of the chair your child’s feet are supposed to be flat on the floor while sitting, with knees at 90 degrees angle.

Check out our favourite children’s furniture brand – Nidi for desks and chairs available in different modularity and colours.

4.Storage

Keep the clutter to a minimum! It is a lot harder to concentrate when kid’s workspace is strew with unnecessary objects. Keep it to a minimum and use storage options to leave the desk tidy and organised.

The more storage that you can get into children’s room, the less it creeps into the rest of your home. We can advise you on best storage options to fit in your space, from shelves and wall units, chest of drawers to sideboards.

Shades of black: Kitchen interior trend 2018

Black in furnishing

Use of dark colours in interior design has become extremely successful after being presented during the Milan Design Week 2018. For years Nordic style has been stealing consumer’s hearts and now in combination with a range of dark colours; from intense browns to deep blues, from greys in to the shades of total black it continues to meet designers taste.

Black: complete, fundamental, sophisticated  and elegant. In character with those who love to dare. It is not easy to use, especially in furniture , but if introduced to your interior in correct way it can transform the atmosphere of your room enhancing it with sophistication that darker shades naturally possess.

It is the common perception, that black is associated with darkness: therefore because of its intensity it is often used in accessories or small furniture, often combined with lighter colours that make it appears weaker. It is perhaps the fact that we are afraid it will make our space look smaller and dim.

In fact, when using black wisely it can give your interior a touch of character and sharpness. More popular in industrial and vintage style interior, dark colour can give your space strong identity symbolising power, respect and authority. Perfect in modern interior with minimal furniture, also combined with white colour creates a timeless look.

Aliant-light

Black according to Feng Shui

The Feng Shui is a practice of Chinese and Tibetan origin, very ancient tradition. According to Feng Shui, the harmony of man depends on the balance. It states that the layout of the room and furnishings as well as the colours that dress them, must response to precise rules in order to create a calm environment that maximizes the well-being of those who live there.

Black adds depth to an environment and fills the space with energy: it is therefore suitable for furnishing rooms where the activity is dynamic, such as kitchen which is the centre of the house. It’s not advised to be used in  areas dedicated to relaxation and rest.

What to consider if you want a dark kitchen

One of the most important factors  to keep in mind when planning to use black in the kitchen is BALANCE. It is necessary to evaluate the size and shape of your room as well as lighting as black or in facts any very dark tint can dominate the entire environment.

If the kitchen area is a small space, using dark kitchen furniture will make it cramped, it is therefore advised to use light colour, only adding few black details. If however the kitchen is generous, choosing dark colour will make a great impact on your space and positively impress your guests. Black imply refined and luxurious style, especially when accompanied by lights that define its contours and enhance its depth. The black kitchen with appropriately positioned lights will appear scenographic.

As well as the aesthetic advantages, black kitchen also has other benefits: it needs little maintance, due to dark colours being very resistant and in opaque finish also masks the fingerprints, therefore the kitchen becomes much more functional and easy to clean.

The Aliant kitchen presented by STOSA is a perfect example of a dark kitchen enhanced by light colours. The pantry with opaque black glass doors and the window with brushed black frame doors and semi-transparent grey glass perfectly match the central island in HPL Argilla finish.  What STOSA created is a strong, elegant and extremely functional kitchen.

Aliant

In order to make the dark kitchen less impactful we suggest the trick of using light or bright colours as shown in the Metropolis kitchen. Use of black with combination of Pet Grau and Cool Grey Pet balancing the colour, creating a dynamic composition.

Metropolis

Alternatives to dark kitchens

For those afraid to use black in the kitchen, the shades of grey are a great compromise, they are elegant and at the same time timeless.  STOSA Newport kitchen is a classic- contemporary look that blends two shades of grey; the lighter Girgio Piacenza lacquered finish of the hood wall units and the island, the darker colour Gray Partridge Ash use in base units and frame columns.

Newport

Wide range of STOSA kitchens makes it possible to find your perfect composition, designed for different lifestyles and to meet different tastes and needs. Everyone can find the kitchen that best reflects their character by innovation, functionality, ergonomics and a quality that lasts over time.

The new model of STOSA kitchen soon will be on our display in our Cambridge showroom. Come and see one of kitchen designers if you are planning on upgrading your kitchen. We can advise you on the colour and finish to create your perfect space in time for Christmas celebrations.  Visit our showroom at 132 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8HE

Exploring kid’s bedroom furniture with new Nidi collection

As a family-owned business, we know a thing or two about kids. We realise that childhood is a whole different world of discovery, magic, and fun. As parents, we want to provide our little ones with the right environment to learn and grow.

That’s why helping people kit out their children’s bedrooms with the finest modern Italian furniture is a subject close to our hearts. We keep our ears to the ground for the latest developments in contemporary design, because we know your kids deserve only the finest.

So, when Battistella, one of our favourite designers, unveiled their newest kid’s collection, Nidi, we couldn’t wait to get the inside scoop!

Space to play

The kid’s bedroom is their inner sanctum, a place of safety where they can let their imaginations run free. Time spent here should result in some of the fondest childhood memories, and that starts with shaping the right environment.

Play means toys, and toys need somewhere to live too. That makes storage a top priority, and the Nidi collection is ram-jammed with options. Take a look at the Woody wardrobe. A multitude of options for personalisation let you match it to the space you need.

nidi-woody-wardrobe-collection

Nidi is also furnished with a choice of luxury kid’s rugs. Not only do these brighten up the room, they fire the imagination with their colourful, characterful designs to match your little one’s personality.

Another key feature of childhood is curiosity, and the desire to learn. Make this inspiring and fun for them with one of Nidi’s robust children’s desks. A burst of shapes, colours and textures mean there’s something in here to delight the most studious bookworm.

Space to rest

At the end of a long day spent exploring the galaxy or riding through the wild west, the bold adventurers are going to want to get their heads down. They’re in luck. Nidi contains some amazing beds to help them explore the Land of Nod in comfort.

The Kap four-poster bed is a perfect collision of timeless style and futuristic design. Your little one will be delighted with their very own four-poster, either contained within a hard-wearing framework, or concealed from the world with the option of a full curtain.

nidi-KAP-FOUR-POSTER-BED

On the other hand, maybe they’d prefer the freedom to roam. The Mino single bed is genius in motion thanks to its sheer simplicity. Comfort and security are built into every bold line, with a matching headboard and footboard combo that lets them sleep upside-down, back-to-front, side-to-side, or any which way they feel cosiest!

Space to grow

Of course, the best kid’s furniture is the kind of tough stuff that stands up to the rigours of time, and the demands of growing bodies. Thankfully, durability and safety are two of the hallmarks of Italian furniture design.

Bedroom furniture for young children is one thing, but they don’t stay tiny forever. Nidi comes to the rescue with some stunning examples of teenagers’ bedroom design.

Music is a hallmark of many teen lives, so why not let them create their own soundtrack with the #MyStudio setup. Enduring, spacious storage outlines a private study space in a range of soft, soothing colours.

nidi-bedroom-furniture

Here, they can compose, write, or pursue any artistic endeavour they like behind a rich felt curtain. Flanked by comfortable seating to hang out and reflect on life, it’s a true sanctuary for them to nurture their talents.

Or maybe your teen prefers a more open, inclusive room? The #MyField design is ideal for the budding sportsperson, making elegant use of open space to line the walls with storage and leave the floor free.

In this example, the lion’s share of the area is divided from a smaller, protected study space. It goes without saying that either area holds plenty of capacity for sports kit and trophies!

What can a wardrobe bring to your bedroom?

A good bedroom is a thing of beauty, the hidden jewel of your home. But like all hidden wonders, it sometimes goes unappreciated compared to rooms which traditionally get top billing. In this blog, we’re going to rebalance that perception, illuminating some gorgeous options for this most intimate space.

Why focus on the bedroom?

This is one room where you absolutely don’t have to compromise. The bedroom is your temple, your inner sanctum, where you can create the ideal hiding place from the cares of the world. Other rooms are shaped by what might delight – and impress – your visitors, but the bedroom is just for you.

The bedroom is also somewhere you’re guaranteed to see at least twice every day. Some days you might be in a rush and skip breakfast, shower at the gym, or get in late and have no time for watching TV. Far less common is missing out on the satisfaction of sinking into the welcoming embrace of your own bed at the end of the day.

Since you’ll be spending time here so regularly, why wouldn’t you take special care when kitting it out? Best of all, you can achieve an incredible feel with just a few carefully chosen pieces of contemporary Italian furniture.

Catering to the irregular

Let’s focus on wardrobes. We’ve got all the love in the world for a great bed, but since we’re inviting a fresh perspective on interior design, why not shine a light on a key piece of bedroom furniture that sometimes gets neglected.

A contemporary fitted wardrobe can be built to your specifications, making use of irregular spaces and corners to achieve a snug fit, maximising storage in even the most awkward bedrooms. You can turn a difficult corner into a beautiful, orderly storage unit, or play to its character with a design that truly stands out.

Inside, you can go to town on customising your new Italian wardrobe for a specific purpose. If you’re a shoe fanatic, you can fill it with compartments to keep your favourite pairs within easy reach. Alternatively, deluxe chrome trouser racks and increased hanging space can bring serenity to the most diverse garment collections.

The philosophy behind modern Italian furniture design centres around elegance and effortlessness. Adding optional extras like internal LED lighting to your wardrobe makes browsing easy, while a soft closing device makes tucking your clothes away a joy, an artistic act in itself.

It’s all about taking a fun, playful perspective, celebrating what makes the space yours.

Expressing your uniqueness

Hinged wardrobes are a beloved, enduring bedroom favourite, with good reason. Whether fitted or free-standing, they open up endless options for personalisation. Something like the Spring hinged wardrobe by Jesse, one of our favourite Italian furniture designers, is a perfect example.

Jesse maxi wardrobe

Jesse maxi wardrobe

With its striking linear design and subtle, robust handles, this piece can add an air of understated elegance to your bedroom. Matched simply with a real Italian rug or a floor lamp like Foscarini’s Aplomb, you can create an almost futuristic atmosphere.

Or what about the hinged glass wardrobe from Caleido? Its warm, cheerful colour fuses with cutting-edge design to create a timeless classic. This piece would suit a busier bedroom, alongside a bedside table stacked high with your favourite books.

Glass Wardrobe

Hinged wardrobes tend to be compact, versatile, and less expensive than other varieties. This makes them perfect when space is an issue, but if you’ve got some room to play with, there are other options…

Filling a beautiful space

What about a sliding door wardrobe? These iconic pieces can turn big chunks of floor space into efficient storage which delights the eye. They tend to be larger than their hinged cousins, but none of that space gets wasted.

For example, the Maxi from Jesse is almost imposing in its grandeur. With the right accompanying pieces, it can hold your entire bedroom together and create a cohesive, dignified look.

If you want to take things up a notch, consider a walk-in wardrobe. With or without doors, our designers can help you craft a clothes hoarder’s dream with an incredible range of options. Glass shelves, pigeonholes, pull-out racks, and LED lighting are just some of the elements we can bring to the finished piece.

Novamobili-Break-olmo-scuro-cabina-armadio-lista

Best of all, you don’t even need to begin with the classic side-room leading from your bedroom which comes to mind when you think of the typical walk-in wardrobe. Modern Italian furniture design makes liberal use of stud walls to divide larger spaces exactly as required.
